“Some of the most iconic bear images ever captured are from Bristol Bay. You think of the Bristol Bay fish that go up the Brooks River— that is the most popular destination, maybe in the world. So when you think of Alaska, that image of the bear snatching the salmon out of the air at Brooks Falls is close to the top. Because that is so important to our Alaskan identity, it is important to realize that those are Bristol Bay fish. When people come to Alaska, the first question they ask is where can I get some salmon to eat and where can I see a bear? All the notoriety, all the fame that Alaska has achieved from imagery like that, it all comes back down to these Bristol Bay sockeye.”
