Breanna Walker, Salmon Beyond Borders Director
Salmon Beyond Borders Campaign Director Breanna Walker first came to Alaska for a visit with her family in 2011, when she caught her first wild Alaskan salmon on a stream outside of Cordova. At that moment, she knew she’d be returning.
Breanna grew up swimming, snorkeling, fishing, and exploring the thousands of freshwater lakes in Northern Minnesota, which gave her a love of fish and water at an early age. She moved to Juneau in 2015 to work as a naturalist and quickly decided to stay, transferring to the University of Alaska Southeast, where she received her degree in an interdisciplinary program combining fisheries, environmental science and social sciences. When not at work she can be found hiking, fishing, or skiing with her dog Scordato.
If you could have any super power, what would it be?
If I had a superpower, I would be able to breathe underwater and swim in any water temperature!
What is your favorite wild Alaskan food?
My favorite wild Alaskan food is a tie between sockeye salmon, which I love to eat fresh in the summer, and moose, which is my favorite food to eat in the winter.
