A Lower 48 organization, The Wild Fish Conservancy (WFC), initiated a misguided lawsuit that could be devastating to Southeast Alaska. WFC claims that trolling is having an unsustainable impact on Chinook salmon — and is negatively impacting Southern Resident Killer Whales. In reality, the true causes of Chinook and orca decline in Puget Sound are much closer to home — urbanization, habitat degradation, impassable dams, noise pollution and toxins in the water. Instead of doubling down on fixing those true problems, the WFC has chosen to attack Alaskan fishing families. Read our statement on the judge’s decision.
Join us in asking Assistant Administrator for Fisheries Janet Coit to dedicate the resources to appeal the decision that does not allow a Chinook salmon troll fishery, and to defend fishing families, communities,
and the Southeast economy.
