SalmonState on CODEL’s roundtable: These actions will help wild salmon
JUNEAU—Alaska’s Congressional delegation will host a salmon roundtable tomorrow, Wednesday, Dec. 8 and Thursday, December 9, beginning at 12:30 p.m. AKST both days.
The roundtable will focus on the Yukon, Kuskokwim, Unalakleet, and Chignik River watersheds and will feature “updates from the Alaska delegation, a community leader panel, and federal and state research presentations followed by a Q&A,” according to information about the event, which aims to bring experts and impacted communities together into one room.
“We thank Alaska’s Congressional Delegation for hosting this roundtable and are hopeful they will be champions for the core things Alaska’s wild salmon need, including more inclusive and comprehensive state and federal fishery management, reduction of salmon bycatch in the trawl fishery, protection of salmon strongholds like Bristol Bay, the Tongass, and Southeast Alaska’s transboundary rivers, and investment in salmon habitat restoration and climate resiliency,” said SalmonState Executive Director Tim Bristol. “We’re at a point where inaction will lead to the complete loss of these wild salmon runs and the cultures and economies that they have supported for generations.”
More information about the roundtable will be forthcoming from Alaska’s CODEL.
The event is open to the public. It will be capped at 500, but will be recorded and posted afterward for those unable to join. RSVP at murkowski_events@murkowski.senate.gov.
